Time Management – Blogging Goals – Make Money Blogging

I have expressed on this blog before that I have long term blogging goals. I plan to use my blog to create a much needed income that will hopeful aid us in getting out of debt. I started blogging on free blogger.com host about a year ago and my life has been changed by it. I was able to generate enough income to help the family when our finances were very tight.

Now that I am taking blogging much more seriously I have to budget my time better. I want to be able to make the most of my time when working. So I have decided to I need to come up with a work schedule. I have always heard that people who work at home need to treat the at home work like work outside the home. My mother was one of the people that encouraged me to do this.

After my mother had passed the Bar Exam and was looking for work she decided that all non-paid work would be considered work. She logged her hours and even set her hourly wage. She decided that she was worth getting the paid the amount she set and would work towards this income goal.  I have now decided that is an excellent way to set goals.

First thing I need to do is set my weekly hours. I plan to work no more than 20 hrs a week at my blogging and affiliate marketing goals. Because I am a home-school mom of three kids I need to be very intentional about the use of my time. I am going to set my hourly wage at $60 an hour. This hourly wage is probably on the low end but I think it’s a good goal to start with. The reason I say it’s on the low end is because I know that making money online is completely different than non-online work. Because of the volume of people that can be reached the income potential is much higher than any other work field.

I am still working on my weekly schedule but I think it will be something like this: Monday (3 hrs), Tuesday (5 hrs), Wednesday (5 hrs), Thursday (3), Friday 4 (hrs). I am not sure I can find that much time to commit to my working goals but I am certainly willing to try.

I am also going to try and schedule my days to do specific work. For instance Monday, Wednesday and Fridays I will dedicate the work hours for finding content and blogging. Tuesdays and Thursday will be dedicated to networking and advertising. I am still working on the scheduling so I am not exactly sure what I will be doing on which day. I am also willing to try out schedules and change them if need be.

So there it is. Over a year ago I changed the way I handle my money and now I am changing the way I make money. I am also working on another blog that I think will be my biggest money maker. I haven’t completed it yet but will announce it on this blog when it’s ready for launch.  It is good to set goals and have dreams.  I encourage those of you reading this post to do the same.

[...] If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!Well, Monday was the first day I tried out my new work schedule. I was supposed only work 3 hours today but I think I ended working more like 5. I need to be sure I record my start and end time so that I know how much I am working. I want to try and keep to my 20 hours a week. It might be hard to try and stick to this shedule right now because I am in planning stage of my new blog. I have a hard time putting things down when  I am in the planning stage. [...]

Just stumbled upon your blog. Great work you’re doing so far…keep it up.

    Couple little tips I’ve learned.
    a) Look into “Do Follow” tags. It gives people incentive to post on your blog. Just make sure you moderate to prevent spam

    b) Don’t clutter your site up with too many advertisers. I know your goal is income, but there is a point where it just gets hard to view with all the clutter.

Just my 2 cents….Going to bookmark you, I think you’ll do well

Thanks for the tips Marc. I will look into Do Follow tags. I didn’t know there was such thing. I only knew about Don’t Follow tags.
As far as the ads go, at this point and time I am experimenting with different options. I do want to include ads that can help my readers so it’s not likely I am going to get rid of much. I was planning on doing some house cleaning very soon. I am very intentional about ad placement and try to make the content clearly visible. I appreciate your advice though and am hope you do continue to read my blog.

[...] I might bring back more Adsense at some point but am not sure yet. I received a comment recently that suggested I don’t fill the blog with advertisements. It made me think about whether I was going overboard with ads. I don’t think I was but I decided to start anew. I want to be sure my blog content is clearly visible and not cluttered with ads but at the same time I want to be able to provide more link options for my readers. And of course I do want to make money if I can. [...]

[...] I am also working on a schedule that will allow to keep all of my blogs updated regularly. I have mention before that I want to try and keep my work hours to a maximum of 20 hours a week. So far I have had to work more than that because I am working on creating this new blog but my hope is that 20 hours a week will be enough for me to maintain my blogs. I am also planning on getting more involved with affiliate marketing here very soon. [...]
