Financial Freedom -Some Things Are Hard to Give Up
I have mention before on this blog that I have horses, right? Well, we do. We have two horses that I love dearly. My passion for horses has inspired me to start my Horse Approved blog. If you don’t have horses you may not realize how expensive they can be. Owning horses in CA is probably one of the most expensive places with the hay prices as high as they are here. So why is some like me, who is devoted to getting out of debt and gaining financial freedom spending money expensive horses?

Dave Ramsey makes it clear that we have to “live like no one else so later we can live like no one else” but we are also given the freedom to decide for ourselves what we will give up. I like that Dave Ramsey’s financial advice allows each person to make choices for their lives instead of giving us all a blanket answer to every situation. If one is willing to make sacrifices in one area to keep something else then that is their choice.
When my husband and I first started our financial freedom journey we had to make some choices. Deciding whether or not to keep the horses was a big one. When we started our budget was tight but as a family we were willing to do what it took to keep the horses. However, we also had a plan that if our financial situation did not improve then we would have to seriously consider getting rid of the horses.
Well, our financial situation did improve. Though money is still tight we are able to keep the horses and takes steps to gain financial freedom. It may take us a little longer to reach our goal but it is a sacrifice we are willing to make. For some people they have a car a boat they don’t want to give up. Or a monthly trip to the hair dresser or manicurist. It is not up to me or Dave Ramsey to say whether you should give those things up. As long is you realize you may need to give up something else to keep it.
If you are having a hard time deciding whether or not to give up a luxury give yourself a goal date. If your financial situation does not improve then maybe it’s time to give it up.

That’s a seriously gorgeous animal.
I think Dave would be cool with this as long as you could still manage your way out of debt in the next 18-24 months. If not, then he might suggest giving them up for a short period of time to help you climb out of debt faster. After that, it won’t take you long to be back in the saddle. Pun intended.
Stay focused.
Thanks Chris,
If it weren’t an animal I had to give up it would be a lot easier. It’s very hard to give up a good horse. It took years to build a good relationship with her and even though I know God could bring me one just as good it is a very hard give a relationship up.
I do however believe that we can get out of debt within 24 months, so all is good. Thanks for the encouragement and stopping by
