Is the Lottery a Tax on the Poor?
Dave Ramsey has said that the lottery is a ‘tax on the poor’ because the poor are the only ones playing it. You don’t see wealthy people in line at the drug store buying a lottery ticket. I have to say I agree Dave on this matter. I think that people are wasting their money away on lottery tickets when they could be saving and planning wisely for the future.
People who don’t have money often times don’t have any because they are poor at handling it. I know this is not true of all people so don’t get me wrong. But if you think about examples of those that are poor at handling money acquiring large sums of money and then look at them years later, what do you see? They have usually lost most if not all of their money with poor management or even worse, no management.
So why do people buy lottery tickets? Many are hoping for a quick way out of a bad financial situation. To those looking for a quick way out of a bad situation, get real with yourself now. Quit wasting time thinking the ‘quick and easy’ will bring you relief. Instead of wasting time thinking about the get rich quick methods remember the slow and steady wins the race.
Get yourself on a budget now and remember that you are in charge of your money.

Ramsey is right and your post is dead on.
Thanks John
Dave’s link didn’t work for me.
I agree of course on the post, though I would have been less diplomatic and titled it “Is the lottery a tax on the stupid?”
Then again, I’d feel pretty silly if I said that to a winning ticket holder. But what are the odds of that?
LOL! “Is the lottery a tax on the stupid?” A bit harsh but funny
Yes, the lottery is a tax on the poor. Quite a sad thing if you asked me.
