Could Things Have Been Different? – The Credit Card Blues
Life is not easy. No one ever promised it would be. In fact many worn growing children about the troubles to come. Why is life difficult anyway? I believe it is to grow us.
Money troubles are a bit of a different story. For many people, the improper handling of money is what brings trouble. I honestly believe that many people could have a very different life story if they had just handle their money correctly. I know this is true in my life.
If my husband and I had not applied for and used credit cards when we first got married it’s possible that our story would be much different today. Obtaining credit was encouraged by friends and family and no one had told us that it was dangerous. We are of course responsible for our own decisions and did choose to go into debt on our own.
Our first credit cards were from Sears and Zales (to buy our wedding rings). For newlyweds a few hundred dollars on credit was not really that big a deal but years of the “I gotta have it now” behavior trained us to use credit cards as the “emergencies” and impulse buys of our life happened.
It was our lack of knowledge that really got us in trouble. If we had only known about Dave Ramsey as a brand new couple entering the world of joint finances, things would have been so much different. It may be that our personality types and ages needed to have years of trial and error in order to become “financially intelligent”.
What ever the reason were not introduced to financial intelligence at any early stage of our marriage is irrelevant at this point in time. Our journey in the ‘not easy’ life that everyone goes through differently has brought us to this point. We can either pity-party our way into deep dispare or change our behavior and continue towards a life of financial freedom. I think you know what road we decided to take
