Are You Like a Hamster in a Wheel? – The Debt Cycle Continues

It’s been a few years now since my husband and I decided to stop borrowing money. It was a easy decision but it was very difficult to follow through with this decision. Everything was fine until there was an emergency. Then the temptation of using a credit card again would creep into our thoughts.
Before we had reached the point of being completely sick and tired of being sick and tired with our financial stress, we would often made the choice to use a credit card in an emergency situation. After we used the credit card we always felt guilty and vowed to never do it again. Sometimes we would even cut up credit cards. All except one of course – in case of emergencies
.
Inevitably an there would be another emergency and guess what we did? You guessed it, use the credit card. So the cycle continued and we were never really serious about getting out of debt. Things are much different for us now but I think that just about anyone reading this can relate to the way we used to handle credit card us.
Dave Ramsey did help us change the way we handle our money. We no longer jump back into to debt the moment an emergency happens. In fact the credit cards are no longer an option in our minds. Though the Financial Peace University did help us finally change the way we handled our money, the decision to change happened within ourselves.
I am convinced that unless you make a true “conversion” then there will never be any real change. Unless you decide that you are absolutely, positively, completely and entirely sick of the same circular motion then your will continue to resemble a hamster in a wheel. Do you really want to change or are you just going to talk about it?
