As I have said before I believe that time management is a very important part of financial management. If we don’t have control over how we spend our time we are probably going to loose control of managing our finances. This is a sad truth I had to learn recently and I have vowed to never let the mistakes I made to never happen again. What it really takes is having an intentional plan ahead mindset rather than a reactionary one.
So many times we loose track of time and end up forgetting some very important things that will keep us on track. This all has to do with having good time management. This summer my goal is to work on my time management. I plan to make a schedule I can stick to that allows me time for things that are good for my soul. Last year I got so caught up in trying to make money the whole summer ended up going by with me stuck to the computer. I will not let that happen again. My making money efforts were to help the family but it was really hurting the family because I was a bit obsessed with it.
By scheduling my time better I will be more effective in every area of my life. So this summer I will be working on Time Management.
Taking Action Steps To Change Behavior
I think it easy for us to say that we can’t change. This is true for people who are bad at handling money, eat too much, spend to much money or those trying to kick and addictive habit. I am not hear to say that some things aren’t harder for others but isn’t it true that we all have to take the same steps to change.
We can’t just sit and hope life will change for us. I do believe that the power of change will come from our creator but the decision to change must come from us. Change is difficult but when we finally come to the realization that change IS necessary then we must take action steps to allow it to happen.
The inspiration of this post comes from my recent financial mistake. I was very, very upset with myself for being so careless. Instead of wallow in self pity for ever, I decided to take action steps to not let it happen again. This post is one of those action steps. Blogging is a type of therapy for me. I often write about things that I am dealing with to help direct my thoughts in the right direction. I also decided to post lists of my responsibilities all over my house so I would be reminded regularly about what it is I should keep on top of. “Finances and Bills to be Paid” is at the top of the list.

Organization Skills Can Help Your Budget
I have never been a very organized person. Most things in my house are in no particular order and I usually waist time looking for things. So why am I tell others about organizing skills? Well, I guess I am what you call and example of what not to do. I recognize my need for organization and am attempting to work on it everyday.
Last Christmas I was given a day planner that is small enough to fit in my purse. So I made it one of my goals this year to use the day planner as much as I could. Well, so far I have been doing much better with organization. It is easier to have your thoughts in order if you are organized. I believe budgeting your time is just as important as budgeting your money. If we don’t think ahead and plan we end up spending money or waisting money because of lack of organization. Read more
Time Management
One of my goals for this year was to become more organized. I think time management is just as, if not more, important as money management. If you don’t organize your time then you are wasting time you could be spending on more productive things. For example, I am constantly searching for my car keys. The pattern usually goes like this. I am frantically trying to get my self, the kids and everything ready before we leave the house. I finally get everything ready and then I discover the keys are missing. “Who moved my keys?â€, I yell. It is only later that I discover that I was the careless one and never put them in a good place to begin with.
So as part of my time management goal this year I have decided to hang my keys up on a screw I screwed into the wall by the door. I also have my purse (another mysteriously perpetually missing item of mine) hanging one this screw. I did think about doing this long ago but the perfectionist (deep down within) in my said “You can’t just put a screw in the walll. That wouldn’t be prettyâ€. I decided to ignore that voice and to be practical. I don’t have the time and maybe not even the money to find that perfect wall hook anyway. What I really need right now is to be able to find my purse and keys when I need to leave the house. I must have wasted hours last year looking for my keys and purse.
Since I am not naturally organized this as been a bit of a challenged for me. I have to constantly remind myself to put the keys and purse on the hook. I am reading a book called, Living Organized by Sandra Felton and one of my biggest challenges seems to be not loosing the book. Sandra even mentioned in the first chapter that it is important not to loose the book. I laughed when I read this because I knew I was going to have a problem keeping track of the book. I am learning a lot from this book and my hope is I can actually become a little more organized this year.
One thing I have changed about my daily schedule is to limit my time working online until after 5pm. When I am on the internet I often shut everything out and focus on my online work. This was affecting my family and household chores so I decided I need to consider home schooling the kids, housework and driving the kids to their classes as part of my “day jobâ€. Even though my mother chores do go past I decided that I wouldn’t do any online work before this time. So far it is working much better and I think the family is happier. I do get tempted to get online but I have to suppress those urges
